PuTTY

PuTTY is a free SSH client for Windows. Using this program you can connect to all the linux machines in the E-Bar, including the dedicated linux servers, as well as servers in the other databars.

Download

Putty can be downloaded from here:

No installation is required. To start PuTTY, simply run the downloaded file.

Using PuTTY

You must first decide on which machine to connect to. If you are connecring to the E-Bar, you should use one of the linux servers. If you are connecting to the G-Bar, you should use one of their servers, for example hald.gbar.dtu.dk.

Now, run PuTTY by executing the file you just downloaded (putty.exe). You will be presented with the following screen:

In the “Host Name” field, enter the name og the machine you want to connect to. Leave everything else as is, and press the “Open” button.

You will be presented with a prompt asking for your username and password (i.e. your DTU credentials if you are connecting to a databar computer). If everything goes right, this completes the connection precedure, and you will be presented with a terminal on the machine you are connected to.
